Youth Drama Workshops
What are our workshops all about?
Our holiday programmes are designed to respond to a crucial voids in the rural communities. An absence of affordable skills-building opportunities exacerbates the disparity between metropolitan and regional students. Informed by Abbie’s personal experience as a student and teacher in a rural community, Left of Centre are passionate about filling this gap in effective ways by building on the existing relationships within the community, towards generating a culture of theatre-making that extends well beyond the scope of a single workshop towards ongoing skill development.
Research consistently illustrates the benefits of participation in the performing arts for young people’s wellbeing, emphasising its role in providing a nurturing environment to experiment, express themselves, and foster meaningful friendships. These can be crucial interventions for students who are feeling isolated, struggling with self-confidence or grappling with their choices for their future. The arts also expose young minds to a diverse range of perspectives, representations and ideas, enhancing not only their artistic skills and wellbeing but their engagement with their community.
